LANXESS to showcase green and innovative solutions for the coatings industry

  • LANXESS at the Chinacoat 2011,November 23-25,
  • Booth: 2E01-04, Shanghai New International Expo Center

Shanghai, November 18, 2011 - Specialty chemicals company LANXESS will be presenting its comprehensive product portfolio for the paints and coatings industry at the upcoming Chinacoat 2011. Two business units – the Inorganic Pigments (IPG) and the Material Protection Products (MPP) – will attend the trade show at Shanghai New International Expo Center from November 23 to 25, to display their broad range of environmentally friendly pigments and biocides for the coatings industry.

The IPG business unit will be featuring its line of tailor-made inorganic pigments from its industry leading Bayferrox® and Colortherm® pigment ranges. All products are manufactured in state of the art processes that comply with highest sustainability standards. The extraordinarily lightfast, weather-stable and chemical resistant products are distinguished by their outstanding quality as well as their environmentally compatible processing. They are used in a wide variety of paint applications, such as marine coatings, industrial finishes, household paints, architectural coatings or colorant applications.

Among the exhibits, Bayferrox® 943 is a high-performance reddish iron oxide yellow pigment. A crystal modification gives it its unique orange undertone. Additional to the unique color shade, the short needle-shaped structure of the pigment ensures a low viscosity behavior in pigment preparations which make the Bayferrox®943 a preferred grade for coating and tinting systems.

The outstanding properties of the low-silking yellow pigment Bayferrox® 915 result from its unique particle morphology. The pigment particles are virtually spherical, so that no orientation of the particles is preferred during the brush strokes, thus the silking effect is avoided. The spherical structure also results in significantly lower viscosity behavior of pigment preparations compared to normal yellow iron oxide pigments.

Thanks to a special production process, the micronized Bayferrox® 3910LV shows a significant lower viscosity behavior in pigment preparations and is therefore the first choice for iron oxide yellow tinting systems. Colortherm® Yellow 10 is an iron oxide yellow pigment with improved heat stability. It achieves its high heat stability through an additional inorganic surface treatment. It is developed particularly for applications where high heat stability is required, such as powder coatings and coil coatings.

The rapid growth of Chinese economy has continuously driven the demand shift towards high-end and environmentally friendly products. “It is a trend we have been benefited from since we first started our business in China 15 years ago,” says Dr. Wolfgang Oehlert, Vice President for the Inorganic Pigments business Unit in Asia Pacific. “We will continue to invest in our business in China with our high performance Bayferrox® and Colortherm® grades. Thereby, we provide a reliable basis to our customers, allowing them for more efficient processing and for high quality products driving their success.”

Chinese markets, especially the high end application sectors in the coatings industry, are very important for the LANXESS IPG growth in the Asia-Pacific region, said Dr. Oehlert. “Being close to the market means also taking time during the trade show to intensify the contacts with our customers,” he added. “We will introduce our high performance pigment solutions and tailored specialties to existing and potential customers from China and other Asian countries.”

The LANXESS Material Protection Products business unit will be featuring an extensive range of biocides under the reputable brand of Preventol®. Accompanied with outstanding technical service, LANXESS offers the broad product lines in industrial preservatives, dryfilm fungicide and algaecide which can be used in the applications of coating, polymer emulsions, antifouling paints, mineral slurries, glues and construction chemicals, etc.

A growing trend in the biocide market is the use of cost-efficient products that are effective against target organisms without damaging the environment. The LANXESS biocides range for coatings fulfill such key demands: low toxicity, non-VOC, non FA, environmental friendly, cost-effectiveness and compatibility with other components of the coating, polymer emulsions, etc. These products not only preserve the good appearance of facades or patios, for example, but also safeguard the value of these objects in the long term.

The rapid industrialization, economic activity and rising demand from urbanization especially the construction applications are driving the demand for industrial preservatives, especially the high end ones combined with expanding environment requirements.

“With our proven Preventol® line of products, we are committed to be one of the most attractive and reliable partners that offers customized, flexible range of services and solutions to the customers to protect materials from being contaminated, damaged or broken down by microorganisms.” says Jeffery Gu, LANXESS MPP Greater China Manager.
