- LANXESS's Inorganic Pigments business unit concludes three-year cooperation agreement with Marianum children's home
- Building given new coat of paint using LANXESS pigments
Krefeld -
The Inorganic Pigments (IPG) business unit of specialty chemicals company LANXESS and the management of Marianum children's home in Krefeld, Germany, have concluded a three-year cooperation agreement to further improve the home's services and to jointly work to promote the future of Krefeld. The agreement provides for an annual donation to Marianum of EUR 10,000 which will be used to finance various different projects. In addition, LANXESS will also make material donations to the home. A first measure was to give the external facade in Hubertus Street a new coat of paint using LANXESS's Bayferrox pigments, which produce a warm and friendly red shade.
“As a leading German specialty chemicals company and the world's top producer of iron oxide and chromium oxide pigments, and being based in Krefeld, we take our social responsibility and commitment very seriously,” explains Jörg Hellwig, head of the Inorganic Pigments business unit at LANXESS. “As a local company we would like to actively shape the future of Krefeld, which includes supporting selected establishments in our neighborhood.” Cooperation with Marianum is part of the IPG business unit's Krefeld initiative. This year, for example, Inorganic Pigments has been supporting the youth work of KEV'81 e.V. and, under LANXESS's global education drive, has modernized the older of the two chemical laboratories at Fabritianum High School in collaboration with the school's friends association. Since 2008, the specialty chemicals group has invested more than EUR 2.5 million in its education drive.
85 years of Bayferrox pigments
This year, the IPG business unit is marking 85 years of Bayferrox pigments. “Celebrating a company anniversary not just internally but linking it up to a social project is another sign that LANXESS sets standards outside its actual business activities,” said Krefeld's Mayor Monika Brinner, praising the commitment of the specialty chemicals company.
The production of Bayferrox pigments in Uerdingen has experienced an exceptionally steep rise. In 1926 – the year production began – pigment sales stood at around 1,200 metric tons. The production volume now numbers around 280,000 metric tons per year.
World's largest color pigment facility at the Krefeld-Uerdingen site
Krefeld-Uerdingen is where the Inorganic Pigments business unit is based and is truly the epicenter of LANXESS's global inorganic color pigments operations. Besides the IPG management team, the research and development division, the global technical competence centers, and global marketing and product management units are also all located there. The world's largest production facility for color pigments manufactures iron oxide and chromium oxide pigments for the surface coatings sector and for the construction, plastics and paper industries.
IPG gives color to the Eiffel Tower and Soccer City Stadium
Bayferrox pigments from Krefeld can be seen everywhere: for example, they lend the Eiffel Tower in Paris its new brown shade and are responsible for the impressive colorful shell of the Soccer City World Cup Stadium in Johannesburg in South Africa. Whether in colored cycle tracks and pedestrian zones or in spectacular buildings such as the multi-colored City of Justice in Barcelona and the exclusive Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, IPG pigments can be found across the whole world. The customer has more than 100 shades to choose from. Detailed information about the use of LANXESS pigments is available on the website www.bayferrox.com.
The Inorganic Pigments business unit is part of LANXESS’s Performance Chemicals segment, which recorded sales of EUR 1.97 billion in fiscal 2010.
